gear.xml (and custom_gear.xml, see Custom Data Files) contains all of the information for Street Gear. Ammunition is treated as Street Gear.

categories describes the different Categories of Gear.

gear nodes describe the individual pieces of Gear.

categories Node

<categories>
   <category />
</categories>

category (required): the name of the Gear Category. This list populates the Category list found in the Select Gear window. Categories are used to group Gear into groups such as Ammunition, Compounds, and Misc. Electronics.

gear Node

<gear>
   <name />
   <category />
   <addoncategory />
   <rating />
   <capacity />
   <response />
   <signal />
   <firewall />
   <system />
   <avail />
   <addweapon />
   <costfor />
   <cost />
   <cost3 />
   <cost6 />
   <bonus />
   <source />
</gear>

name (required): the name of the Gear.

category (required): the Category that this Gear belongs to. This should match one of the Categories defined in the categories Node. This may be set to General if this piece of Gear is only intended to be an add-on to another piece of Gear.

addoncategory (optional): by default, Gear can only have add-ons from its own Category and the General Category. You can add one additional add-on Category by specifying an addoncategory. This must match one of the Categories defined in the categories Node.

rating (required): the maximum Rating for this piece of Gear. Set to 0 if Ratings are not enabled for this piece of Gear.

capacity (optional): the Capacity for this piece of Gear. Pieces that consume Capacity should be enclosed in square brackets, identical to the style found in the Shadowrun 4 sourcebook.

response (optional): required for Gear in the Commlink Category. The Commlink's Response.

signal (optional): required for Gear in the Commlink Category. The Commlink's Signal.

firewall (optional): required for Gear in the Commlink Operating System Category. The Operating System's Firewall.

system (optional): required for Gear in the Commlink Operating System Category. The Operating System's System.

avail (required): the Availability for this Gear. May use the Rating keyword if Rating is enabled. May use mathematical formula such as (Rating * 3)F. avail can start with + to indicate that it increases the base Gear's Availability instead. avail starting with + can also include R or F to change its Availability. For example +3R would add 3 to the parent item's Availability and make it Restricted if it was not already. This will not downgrade an item from Forbidden to Restricted - this highest restriction is always kept.

addweapon (optional): when this piece of Gear is added, Chummer looks for a Weapon in weapons.xml and adds it to the character. The value must match the name of a Weapon exactly. This is used to add Grenades and Missiles to a character.

costfor (optional): required for Gear in the Ammunition Category. This is used when there are multiple quantities of an item in each purchase, such as 10 bullets or 20 Security Tags. Applies only to cost, not cost3 and cost6.

cost (optional): the Cost for this Gear. If cost is not specified, you must instead specify cost3 and cost6. May use the Rating keyword if Ratings are enabled. May use mathematical formula such as Rating * 50.

cost3 (optional): the Cost for the Gear up to Rating 3. If cost3 is specified, you must also include cost6 but cannot include cost. May use the Rating keyword if Ratings are enabled. May use mathematical formula such as Rating * 50.

cost6 (optional): the Cost for the Gear up to Rating 6. If cost6 is specified, you must also include cost3 but cannot include cost. May use the Rating keyword if Ratings are enabled. May use mathematical formula such as Rating * 50.

bonus (optional): a bonus node that describes any bonuses this entry grants. Values may contain the Rating keyword if Ratings are enabled. See Improvement Manager for more information.

source (required): the code for the Sourcebook that this entry comes from. See books.xml.
